Soapnuts are best grown in the western ghats of Karnataka due to the region’s moist climate and fertile soil. The trees require little maintenance and can be left to grow wild. Once the berries are ripe, they are handpicked and then sun-dried before being crushed into a powder. This powder can then be used to make liquid soap or added to laundry detergent. The majority of the production takes place in the districts of Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, and Dakshina Kannada.
